Study methods

Since I have just started learning Japanese, I have mainly searched the internet for useful sites to refer to until I found Tony Sensei's site.   I found a site called Genki Japan.net that has some omoshiroi songs and games to help you learn some basic words and phrases.  I have spent time studying the material on About.com-Japanese Language.  I found some Japanese lessons on Youtube that seem to be generally consistant with information that I have found on the internet, although this was discussed in one of my fourm discussions on About.com-Japanese Language and several of the members seem to think that they are not very good.  Which brought me here.  I found Tony-Sensei's post soon after that discussion.

I have purchased the Genki text for this course.

Introduction

I'm a big fan of anime (あにめ おたく ね) - well maybe not that big..  I also like Japanese food a lot (にほんご の たべものは すき です).  Though not so much sushi/sashimi (raw fish...yuck!)  I am half Japanese (わったしは 1/2 にほんごじん です). I went to Tokyo once for a day.  I have been trying to learn Japanese since circa March 2009 and had followed along the JP1001 course for the Fall 2009 semester.  The pod casts and Anki Decks that Tony Sensei offers on this site are really good.  There seem to be a lot of resources and useful sites on the internet.  I have learned the hiragana and katakana alphabets, as suggested on many websites, so I can read and write them slowly.  My vocabulary has improved quite a bit since joining this site. My grammer understanding is limited (as you can probably tell from my sentences above) but better and I definitely need to practice speaking and verb conjugations more.  My Kanji is limited but has improved with the lessons on this site.

I practice kung-fu and am a fair artist.
